Molds: bangle #414, jewelry #22, an ice cube mold (dog bones, flowers, gum drops), a jell-o mold (eggs), a handmade mold (bow), MC-1 (logo).

Elizabeth's sence of humor is coming out in this next entry. Her third ResinObsession Easter Challenge submission is titled "Easter goes to the dogs". Materials: resin, candy. Mold: an old ice cube tray.

ResinObsession web site is now alive!

11-5-08 I spent most of the afternoon and evening yesterday populating the new ResinObsession website http://www.resinobsession.com/servlet/StoreFront. I think it looks pretty good, how about you? I did goof tho, as usual, I switched domain servers without immediately taking care of my email...oooops! I wondered why I didn't get many emails over the weekend. I thought everyone was just so busy with the election they weren't ordering anything!

I saw Fran with Little-Windows at the Quilt Show again this year. Her booth has doubled, her samples were clever and if the crowd around her booth is any sign.... I would say she is doing well. Congrats Fran!

Many of you have asked to see samples of some of my work and while a lot of it is off with vendors for shows or waiting pictures to be made in to kits, I've taken a few pictures of some pieces. Remember I'm not a photographer or very good at picture editing.

The coral and silver beads necklace and matching bangle doesn't show up as the true color but it's close enough.
The ring looks like a real stone in person.
The amber set is a technique I developed.
I hope you like. Thanks cindy@resinobsession.com

Bangle Mold Measurement Circumference not Diameter

I'm not ashamed to admit when I'm wrong. A precious math student pointed out that the term I meant all this time is circumference not diameter for the measurement of the bangle mold. No wonder why I confused everyone. I apologize. So everytime I say diameter just pretend I'm saying circumference OK? thanks cindy@resinobsession.com

Breathtaking artwork with resin

The way the last post came up in the Google alert it sounded like I did the paintings. I by now means intended to take credit for the work. I just wanted to share the many wonders that can be done with resin. The artist that did the work deserves all the credit.

Gloss Shine to Resin Jewelry Casting

OOOOOOOOO the age old question of how to get that high shine back. It's one of my most asked questions. I promise there is a dvd coming by the end of the year, I'm trying. There are two ways to get the high gloss back once you have sanded your casting. One is to "DIP" not brush but dip your sanded piece in a new batch of liquid resin. Now before you do this you need to put some packing tape or scotch tape on the back. Resin does not adhere to scotch tape and you will need this to peel off the little drips. At the very second the resin hardens it will hardened little drips on the back. Now with the tape on the back you can peel those little drips right off. Now for the second way will require some tools like a jewelers variable slow speed bench lathe or a bench grinder will work but most of them are too fast unless you are very experienced. You will melt your piece if one is too fast. You will need stitched and unstitched muslin buffing wheels, buffing and polishing compounds. This will give you the professional high gloss finish. There is a book that you can probably find at the library that has great pictures that shows the polish and buff process. "The New Jewelry Contemporary Materials & Techniques by Carles Codina". Hang in there I promise there is more info and lots of new techniques and ideas coming soon on dvd. thanks cindy@resinobsession.com

UK distributor carries EasyCast

Hi,
I just got an email from a fellow Obsessioner that Ian Clarke Coatings in the UK is now carrying EasyCast resin! I also understand that he takes PayPal. You can find his address, phone number and fax on the Resin Obsession International Distributors Page. http://stores.ebay.com/RESINOBSESSION?refid=store/International-Distributors-List.html or
http://www.clarke-coatings.co.uk/
I hope this helps.

I have a tip: Browsing I found where someone asked How to polish resin after they had sanded it. One of the answers involved denatured alcohol. Denatured alcohol does have a tendacy to amber your resin after a short amount of time. It is better to use sand paper increasing your grit then buff / polish with a cloth wheel loaded with polish for plastic.

Happy Casting
