The yellow ring is just a finished sample for picture purposes, not included with mold.

They may be a little tricky to begin with but I think they will be well worth the effort. The silicone molds are made from a tin silicone that has a long shelf life and tough enough for many pulls. The molds are handmade by me.

Fill the bottom half rolling the resin around to avoid trapping any air bubbles. You may want to wrap with a rubber band to close the slit in the plug a little more. You will need this slit to remove the ring from the mold. Set aside and let cure to a gel stage. You will have a little bit of flashing from the slit when you remove the casting that can be easily snapped off.The top bubble part of the mold can be filled in layers and embedded with goodies.
Once the top and bottom have reached the gel stage apply a small amount of resin to the castings and join the two halves.
Or you can rubberband together and pour resin in the pour holes which is a little more advanced technique. Take the casting out of the mold once it has started to harden as this will produce a shiner casting if it doesn't touch anything while finishing to cure.

Use dish soap and water to clean your molds. Use rubbing alcohol to remove fingerprints and such. Mix and pour the casting material according to manufacturer's instructions. After the cast has hardened completely, slowly peel the mold from the cast. Work around all the edges before pulling up the middle sections. After a cast is made, be sure to thoroughly clean the mold ( removing any casting residue or release agent) before storing. Store silicone molds in a clean, dry location, embed a rigid mother mold cast if possible to hold the molds shape. This prevents the mold from distorting or warping over time.

what you need:
ResinObsession resin mold - Mold 403- 11 popular jewelry shapes was used in project

EasyCast clear casting epoxy resin (part A, B)

color powder, pearl ex pigments, purple and bright gold

reusable resin measuring cups

stiring sticks

tooth picks

timer

tissues

step by step:
1. Mix EasyCast resin following manufacturer's instructions.

2. Pour small amounts of resin into 2 seperate cups to mix in the pearl colors purple and bright gold.

3. Pour the remaining clear resin into the selected mold cavities just below the top to allow for extra drops of color.

4. Use a toothpick to pick up one of the colors and drip a drop into one of the shapes anywhere.

5. Do the same with the other colors, as in step 4.

6. The drops will settle down into the resin, not just sit on top.

7. With a new toothpick and tissue in hand, swirl the colored drops around to make shaped in the clear resin. Between each swirl clean your toothpick on the tissue. You can pull the colors into each other for mixed color affect, any shape you wish, in this case swirls.

8. When satisfied with the affects, clean your area and let resin cure. Pop resin out of molds.

9. Once casting has fully cured polish and buff if you wish. Drill a hole with a rotary tool and small drill bit or small hand drill or wire wrap for a pendant, earrings or keyring.

Finally! The first of the bubble ring molds are here! Would you like to be one of the first to have one? You can find a couple on Etsy and a couple on eBay under the ResinObsession name.

They may be a little tricky to begin with but I think they will be well worth the effort. You will want to warm the molds slightly, a heat gun, microwave or toaster oven will do. Squeeze the molds when filling to give you a little wider opening. Once filled about half way, roll the resin around to avoid trapping any air bubbles. You can use craft stick or a pair of tweezers that opens when pinched to make the opening wider when filling with resin. Once filled to the top lay a piece of glass over the top, this way when the resin has cured you can just snap off the flashing. Or if you prefer once the casting has cured and there is an indentation from the shrinkage add a little bit of resin to fill in so you don't have to do any sanding.

New Resin Jewelry Bangle Mold in Town- She's Bigger and Chunkier

There's a new Bangle Mold in town and she's bigger, chunkier and better for embedding! Her name is Bangle Mold 414. Resin jewelry Bangle mold 414 is a full 3 ¾ inches outside diameter and inside diameter is 2 5/8 inches. Outside circumference is 12 inches and inside circumference is 8 inches. Depth is ¾ inch. She has lots of room to embed 'til your hearts content. Maker Faire Austin ResinObsession demos What a BLast!

We had an awesome time at Maker Faire in Austin,Texas, which is an event created by Make Magazine to "celebrate arts, crafts, engineering, science projects and the Do-It-Yourself (DIY) mindset." It is like nothing else you have ever seen! I describe it as a "science museum goes to the State Fair"! A wonderful world for "tinkerers", indie upcyclers, and "Keep Austin Weird" crowd.



Craft Magazine had my Resin Starter Kits in the Maker Shed where I demonstrated how to mix and pour resin as well as ideas of all the fun stuff that can be created. If you ever have the opportunity to attend the Maker Faire, in San Mateo, CA, in May or Austin, TX, in October you should take advantage of it.

Bangle Mold Measurement Circumference not Diameter

I'm not ashamed to admit when I'm wrong. A precious math student pointed out that the term I meant all this time is circumference not diameter for the measurement of the bangle mold. Beautiful Thunderstorm Powerful MotherNature

I love it when it rains and find it soothing to work in the workshop while it's raining. But what a wakeup call when the lightening hit just outside the open doors. I saw a huge flash of light and the ground shook. I was using battery powered tools so no real danger. The kitties all gathered around wanting protection from Alpha Kitty Mommy. We frantically started running around shutting things down. All important electronics are plugged into battery backups but not the Internet cable. Lightening hit just outside our office yesterday 6/25/08 and traveled thru our Internet cable destroying our router, switch and pci card in the computer. I have things fixed and just need to tidy up. We lost a few emails we were working on at the time of the strike so if you have an email you were waiting on an answer please resend. I think we were finished with shipments for the day (6-25) when we had the strike but please email me if you have any concerns about your order. I will start processing orders tomorrow. New molds, new mold making machine starts Passion for Plastic

Exciting News! ResinObsession starts Passion for Plastic! A mold making machine is on the way. We will now have the capabilities to make custom resin molds! YAHOO! That means a larger Bangle resin mold will be hitting the ResinObsession store soon. You asked and I found a way to fulfill your wants. It's not fancy but it will make custom resin molds of your dreams..... I've been dreaming of a Bubble ring mold (which will be no easy task), how about you?

I'm also about half way thru the "Start to Finish Bangle Video". I think you will like it. It has several new ideas such as stone setting, painting, polishing, etc.

I'm trying to do better at posting on a regular basis. I have new molds to show you!

Oh and there is more great news! I have an assistant that helps me 2 days a week. Her name is Susan. She helps me stay focused and keeps our money straight. You know us creative types all we want to do is be in the Studio and not have to worry about the paper and money!

Here are some pics sent in by Kathleen Anchant. This is how she describes her work: It's a bracelet made with sterling silver wire, onyx and Steinlen pictures embedded in resin. I've drilled the resin to thread it onto the wire and then wire wrapped the whole thing.

I think she did an awesome job! Very creative.

CHA Trade Show

The CHA Trade Show was awesome and exhausting! I crammed 4 classes and saw 1000 companies into 3½ days. I have some new ideas?. ....creativity breeds creativity! I see a book in the future, some project kits, a how-to DVD in a class room format and some new tools I've invented. New jewelry molds are on order and should arrive in about two weeks. There are more new jewelry molds coming out this summer. I found a source for mold putty and lots of bezels, I just need to comb through them all to find the distributor with the best price. I'm sure you want the best price right. I found a source for the little plastic people to embed but they did not have a catalog on it, so it will be awhile before I get info on them. If there are things you are looking for email me now before I start placing orders. As soon as I'm done with my 1st year taxes (yuk yuk yuk), I'll be posting new pics, new ways to use things and new ideas for those of you that make jewelry to sell. You are not going to believe what I came up with. Think dichroic glass, metal, sparklies, and indie craft. It's going to be so exciting at Resin Obsession this year.
